 :::::: Self Inspection ::::::
The Sooner is the Better

According to statistical data, breast cancer occurs two to eight years before it can be developed into cancer, so self-inspection should start as early as possible to detect its occurrence. The more you are familiar with your own breasts, the earlier you can discover any changes in them. Discover how you can perform your own breast inspection by following the methods and steps below:

When Can You Perform Self-Inspection?

You can perform the self-inspection anytime. If you still have your monthly period, start the inspection between 7 to 10 days after the period starts. If your menstruation has stopped or your womb has been excised, self-inspect every first day of every month or choose any day you prefer. It is recommended that even if you perform the inspection monthly, it would be better for a professional doctor to check it for you at least once a year. Take note that if you are over 50 years of age, it is also advisable to have a mammography examination once each year.

Where Can You Perform Self-Inspection?

1. In the bathroom or bedroom
2. While taking a shower or lying on the bed

How Can You Perform Self-Inspection?

Use the soft parts of two fingers or more to press and move the skin lightly in a clockwise circle motion, inspecting the areas in small circles. Do not press the breast tissue with the fingertip or nails; this is one of the most frequently made mistakes.

 :::::: Steps ::::::

1. The range of the inspection should include the breasts and the areas near the armpits.

2. Sit or stand in front of a mirror. Facing the mirror with hands hung down, check your breasts if there is any change in its size and appearance.

3. Raise your arms to see if there is any swelling, protrusion, indentation, flatness or ulcer, and if there is any discharge in the nipples.

4. Raise your elbows to the height of the shoulders, join your hands, palms touching each other, with the thumbs at the same height as your nose. Check again if there are any changes.

5. Put your hands to your waist while still facing the mirror. Slowly turn to one side, check if there is any change.

6. While taking a shower, raise your left hand high. Use your right hand to check the left breast.
Then raise your right hand up high, use your left hand to check the right breast.

7. Clockwise, starting from near the armpits use the soft parts of your fingers to press and check the whole breasts.

8. Lie on the bed, adopt the steps above to check the breasts again.

9. Rest your right hand under your head, and place a pillow under your right shoulder.
Use your left hand to press and check nears the right armpit and the right breast. Adopt the same method to check the other side.
